Job Purpose

The Draughtsman (EPLAN/ELCAD) is responsible for preparing accurate electrical schematics, panel layouts, and technical documentation using EPLAN/ELCAD software. The role supports engineering and project teams by translating design concepts and specifications into detailed drawings that comply with industry standards and project requirements. The Draughtsman ensures drawings are updated, coordinated, and aligned with manufacturing, installation, and commissioning needs.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop General Arrangement (GA), layout, and assembly drawings for control and protection panels, including cubicles and sub-assemblies.

  • Prepare detailed fabrication drawings for sheet metal components, mounting plates, sub-panels, and busbar systems with complete dimensions, tolerances, and notes.

  • Create electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, termination drawings, and panel layouts using EPLAN based on engineering schematics.

  • Generate and maintain device tags, cable schedules, terminal diagrams, and Bills of Materials (BOM).

  • Ensure all drawings comply with company standards, client specifications, and applicable industry codes (IEC, NFPA, etc.).

  • Update and revise drawings in line with engineering changes, site feedback, and as-built requirements while maintaining proper version control.

  • Collaborate with design engineers, project managers, and production teams to convert conceptual designs into manufacturable drawings.

  • Optimize component placement and panel layouts for accessibility, maintainability, and thermal performance.

  • Participate in design reviews and incorporate feedback into final drawings.

  • Maintain drawing registers, document control, CAD libraries, and project files in accordance with company procedures.

  • Provide technical clarification and support to workshop and site teams during manufacturing, installation, and commissioning.

  • Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.

  • Contribute to standardization and continuous improvement of electrical design templates and EPLAN libraries.

Job Requirements

Qualifications

  • Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology, or equivalent qualification (e.g., City & Guilds, HNC/HND). Equivalent proven experience will be considered.

Experience

  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience as a draughtsman in a control panel, switchgear, enclosure fabrication, or related heavy electrical manufacturing environment.
  • Technical Proficiency (Mandatory):

Knowledge & Skills

  • Expert user of 2D/3D CAD software. Proficiency in AutoCAD/EPLA/ELCAD is essential.
  • Strong experience in creating detailed manufacturing and assembly drawings.
  • Good understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Basic knowledge of electrical components and their mechanical mounting requirements.
  • Familiarity with control panel construction, sheet metal fabrication processes, and standard electrical enclosure types.
