Job Purpose

The Senior Planning Engineer – MEP is responsible for planning, scheduling, and monitoring mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems for construction projects. The role involves working closely with project managers, engineers, and contractors to ensure that MEP systems are installed according to project timelines, budgets, and quality standards. The Senior Planning Engineer will prepare detailed project schedules, track progress, identify potential delays, and develop strategies to keep the project on track, utilizing Primavera P6 for effective schedule management.

Job Responsibilities

Project Scheduling & Planning:

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive project schedules using Primavera P6, including timelines for all MEP systems installation, testing, and commissioning.
  • Collaborate with the design, procurement, and construction teams to ensure that all activities related to MEP systems are accurately scheduled and sequenced.
  • Prepare and update detailed project schedules, considering all aspects of MEP work, including procurement, installation, testing, and handover.

Resource Planning & Coordination:

  • Coordinate with various departments to ensure the timely availability of materials, equipment, and labor for MEP activities.
  • Forecast resource needs and allocate resources effectively to avoid delays.
  • Track resource usage and performance against the project schedule in Primavera P6 to maintain efficiency and productivity.

Monitoring & Reporting:

  • Continuously monitor the progress of the MEP works, providing weekly and monthly progress reports to the project management team via Primavera P6.
  • Identify any issues or delays in the schedule, including those related to MEP systems, and take corrective actions as necessary.
  • Prepare and issue regular status reports to senior management and stakeholders, highlighting any potential risks or delays and proposing mitigation strategies.
  • Track key performance indicators (KPIs) and measure progress against project goals, ensuring that MEP systems are completed on time.

Change Management:

  • Identify and assess any changes to the original schedule and integrate these changes into the updated project plan within Primavera P6.
  • Evaluate the impact of changes to MEP systems on project timelines and costs, advising the project manager on necessary adjustments.

Cost Control & Budget Monitoring:

  • Assist in preparing project budgets related to MEP systems and monitor expenses to ensure that the project remains within budget.
  • Work closely with the procurement team to track costs and control project expenses, ensuring that the installation of MEP systems is cost-efficient.

Risk Management:

  • Proactively identify potential risks and issues related to the MEP systems and develop mitigation plans to minimize delays and cost overruns.
  • Assist in managing risks associated with the installation of MEP systems, including delays in material delivery, labor shortages, and other factors that may impact the schedule.

Collaboration & Communication:

  • Work closely with all team members, including MEP engineers, contractors, and subcontractors, to ensure coordination and cooperation on MEP activities.
  • Communicate regularly with stakeholders, including the client, consultants, and project team members, to ensure that the schedule aligns with the overall project goals.

Documentation & Handover:

  • Ensure that all planning documents, including schedules, reports, and change orders, are properly documented and maintained within Primavera P6.
  • Prepare final reports for project handover, ensuring that all MEP systems have been installed and commissioned on schedule.

Job Requirements

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  • Additional certification in project management or planning (e.g., PMP, Primavera) is a plus.

Experience:

  • 5 to 10 years of experience in planning and scheduling, with a focus on MEP systems in construction projects.
  • Experience with large-scale commercial, residential, or industrial projects is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of MEP systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and fire-fighting systems.

Skills:

  • Project Scheduling & Planning – Expertise in preparing, monitoring, and updating project schedules using software like Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, or other planning tools.
  • Time Management – Proficient in setting up project milestones, creating timelines, and ensuring that the project adheres to set deadlines, while adjusting for any delays.
  • Cost Control & Budget Management – Knowledge of tracking project costs, managing budgets, and ensuring the project stays within financial constraints. Ability to forecast potential cost overruns.
  • Resource Allocation – Ability to plan and optimize the use of resources (labor, materials, machinery) to ensure effective project delivery.
  • Risk Analysis & Mitigation – Identifying potential risks in the project schedule, proposing mitigation measures, and updating plans to address issues.
  • Progress Monitoring & Reporting – Ability to track and report on the progress of the project, analyzing variances and providing timely updates to management and stakeholders.
  • Change Management – Handling changes in project scope, timelines, or costs and updating the schedules accordingly, including evaluating the impact of changes.
  • Construction Methods & Techniques – Understanding of construction techniques and processes, enabling accurate planning of project schedules and resource utilization.
  • Contractor Coordination – Ability to coordinate with contractors and subcontractors to ensure that all activities are on track and aligned with the project plan.
  • Compliance & Standards – Knowledge of relevant industry regulations and standards to ensure compliance while planning and executing projects.•    

Certifications:

  • Certification in Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, or similar software is required.
  • PMP certification or equivalent project management certification is an advantage.
