Job Purpose

To lead and manage the Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI) operations for commercial vehicles, ensuring functional readiness, compliance with OEM standards, and timely delivery. The role supervises a team of technicians performing detailed inspections, system calibrations, software checks, and accessory installations on trucks, buses, and other heavy vehicles.

Job Responsibilities

  • Supervise and allocate daily inspection and fitment tasks to PDI technicians based on delivery schedules and vehicle types.
  • Oversee detailed inspection of mechanical, electrical, and safety systems including brakes, lighting, suspension, HVAC, and software.
  • Ensure completion of PDI checklists in line with OEM and internal standards.
  • Validate readiness of each unit before handover to Sales or Logistics.
  • Manage installation of accessories (e.g. telematics, fire suppression, additional seating).
  • Coordinate with the Workshop for rectification of defects found during inspection.
  • Maintain accurate records for each inspected unit and ensure traceability.
  • Monitor bay utilization, workflow, and technician performance to meet throughput targets.
  • Enforce safety and environmental standards within the PDI area.
  • Liaise with Sales and Fleet teams to meet delivery timelines and customization requests.
  • Support troubleshooting and issue resolution for new vehicles prior to delivery.

Job Requirements

Qualifications

  • Automotive technical certification (mandatory); diploma preferred.

 

Experience

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in heavy vehicle PDI or service workshop.
  • Strong understanding of commercial vehicle systems and inspection protocols.
  • Proven experience in team supervision and work allocation.
  • Knowledge of OEM specifications and PDI documentation systems.


Knowledge & Skills

  • Mechanical — Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Customer and Personal Service:- Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction
  • Public Safety and Security — Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective safety operations for the protection of technician and customer
  • Time Management — Managing one's own time and the time of others.
